Hatsune Miku - Friday Night Funkin' Mod is an expansion to the popular rhythm video game that introduces engaging rap battles against the iconic Vocaloid character, Hatsune Miku.

Even though Friday Night Funkin' appeared on the market in late 2020, this popular rhythm game has immediately managed to attract big attention of the audience who has not only become strongly engaged with the base title but has also quickly led to the development of numerous expansions filled to the brim with new musical challenges for both beginners and experts.

While the original game featured the main campaign that was separated into 7 weeks of rap battles, our protagonist of the game (called “Boyfriend”) is tasked in this mod to fight against Hatsune Miku over one week.

The gameplay is of course unchanged from the original, with players needing to press Arrow keys on the keyboard by the music and the on-screen prompts that are flying across the rap battle screen. Each correct keypress adds points to the total score, with long combos providing the best results. At the end of each song, the scores of both players and the main opponent (in this case Japanese Vocaloid star Hatsune Miku who is portrayed faithfully in her form as a digital 16-year-old anime girl) are compared and the winner is chosen.

In the universe of this video game, Hatsune Miku is serving the role of Boyfriend’s sister who returns from her worldwide tour to challenge him to master 4 new songs. Players should be aware that songs in this mod are generally harder to perform than many ones from the original game, and the several difficulty modes can even make them even harder and best suited only for seasoned fans of the rhythm game genre. Many fans describe this mod as being very hard, with some songs being very hard to play at the hardest difficulty.

Hatsune Miku - Friday Night Funkin' Mod is an excellent free expansion to the open-source base game. Even though Friday Night Funkin' has received many notable mods, this one manages to distinguish itself with the presence of such a famous musical star and a selection of songs that feature not only the voice of Hatsune Miku but for the first time in the franchise, also the voice of the Boyfriend.
