Starcraft (also known as
StarCraft: Remastered) is a legendary
real-time strategy game, developed by
Blizzard Entertainment and released exclusively only on the PC platform in early 1998, and again
in 2017 in its fully remastered form.
Immediately after its original release in the final moments of the 20th century,
Starcraft 1 managed to revolutionize the RTS
gaming scene, offering players of all proficiency levels access to not only a stunningly well-crafted campaign, gameplay experience, and
deeply detailed story universe, but also a base on which entire modern eSports competition field has formed.
This
simple-to-play but
hard-to-master title was the center point of the first eSports scene known in the world, the focus of the first large-scale and televised tournaments, and the blueprint on which many future
games managed to find success in online play, eSport organization, and more.
Free VS Remastered Free StarCraft and StarCraft: Remastered differ in terms of graphics, gameplay, and features. The remastered version features enhanced graphics, improved audio, and additional features like matchmaking, leaderboards, and cloud saves. The free version has the original graphics and audio and lacks these additional features. However, both versions have the same core gameplay mechanics, storyline, and playable races. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and whether the additional features of the remastered version are worth the cost.
Starcraft version 1 is centered on the story of three Milky Way races who encountered each other in the part of the galaxy known as the
Koprulu Sector. The human colonists there first encountered an incredibly powerful and hostile alien lifeform known as the Zerg, which prompted the appearance of their ancestral opponents Protos – a highly advanced alien species that utilize powers of teleportation and highly effective psionic mental powers. Set during the open conflict between the
Terran Confederacy and
rebel forces, the player assumes the role of Jim Raynor, a revolutionary who managed to become directly involved in the conflict between
Terrans,
Zerg, and
Protos.
The gameplay of
Starcraft evolves on the basic formula that was present in Blizzard’s previous hit game
Warcraft II. During the
long campaign that is set across
20 main missions and
7 side missions, players are tasked to build their base, protect various structures, collect resources with manually controlled worker drones, open up new technologies with research facilities, and train various soldiers, vehicles and flying combat units that can be led into offensive or defensive actions.
All three races in the
StarCraft universe are directly playable, all offering dramatically different gameplay experiences. Terran forces are highly dynamic and versatile, Zerg is animal-like and prefers large numbers to overwhelm the defenses of opponents, while Protos are sophisticated, preferring a smaller number of combat units with incredibly large combat potential.
Featuring a celebrated gameplay balance that allows all playstyles to be equally effective and equally defended,
StarCraft quickly proved itself to be one of the most popular
online RTS games ever made. Today, this legendary title can be experienced in fully Remastered form, with untouched gameplay but presented to modern players with dramatically increased visuals that are still focused on
stylish 2D visuals, great attention to detail, amazing music, memorable sound effects, and gripping story filled with some of the most popular characters in the entire history of the gaming medium.
Starcraft is simply one of the best
real-time strategy games, and in its Remastered form, one of the must-play titles that all PC gamers must experience.
