Train Simulator (also known as
Train Simulator Classic) is an advanced
simulation game that empowers players of all ages to experience the life of a train conductor on a wide variety of
realistic train models and
authentic routes set all around the world.
Enter the world of the ultimate railway hobby with
Train Simulator Classic, where you can explore authentic routes and master complex operations on trains like
DB BR 411 ICE T, BR Class 390 Pendolino, Union Pacific AC4400CW, and more. Whether you have a passion for trains or want to take your hobby to the next level,
Train Simulator 2021 has got you covered.
Developed and published on the PC market by Dovetail Games in the summer of 2009, this title managed to grow tremendously over the following decade, receiving over a
hundred DLC packs that expanded its roster of trains and routes, becoming one of the most impressive train
simulator titles that are playable on PC.
Main FeaturesTrain Simulator features a variety of real-life locomotives and routes, allowing players to explore different parts of the world while driving trains. Each locomotive features an
incredible layer of detail that players can interact with, accessing a unique set of controls and features that are present in real life and used by actual train drivers.
As a serious
simulator title, the game also includes realistic driving mechanics, with players needing to consider aspects such as speed, braking, and acceleration when
driving over scenic landscapes and urban zones.
The
game features a large selection of real-world routes, of which the majority is available to players via premium DLC packs. Players can drive trains on routes such as the
London to Brighton line or
the Northeast Corridor, providing a realistic experience of what it's like to drive trains in different parts of the world. The DLC routes can be either purchased individually or as part of themed packs (
USA,
Switzerland,
UK,
Germany, and
China).
To get more accustomed to a wide array of train models available in the
game, players can enroll in the
TS Academy where they can learn all the steps to become a virtual train driver or engineer on Electric, Diesel, or Steam trains.
The pace of gameplay in
Train Simulator is quite subdued. The players are tasked to immerse themselves into the lifestyle of the train driver, conductor, and engineer, with no added gameplay challenges that will put them out of that experience. This slow pace is not for everyone, making the game uneventful for players seeking an additional challenge.

OverallTrain
Simulator Classic is an impressive
simulation game that offers a unique experience for players who are interested in train driving mechanics. The game's attention to detail, realistic mechanics, and inclusion of
real-world routes add to the overall experience, making it a must-play for fans of the genre. Sadly, the vast majority of its real-world routes and historic train models are locked away behind premium DLC packs, making this title very expensive to enjoy in its entirety.
